8/16/2015 We were in NOLA for the Deftones + Incubus concert + wanted to cram as many memories as we could for an overnight trip ( 5 kiddos @ home 5 -19). Wendy you were VERY warm + welcoming, as well as other staff! Thank you so much! Once I stepped into this hotel, the clock stopped. Rustic, ghostly, with romantic novella vibes ambience. Our room was exactly what a couple wanting to rejuvenate, regroup, fall in love again needed. Well air conditioned + ceiling fan. Actually had to turn the air off lol. Very clean. We love old buildings/homes so this right up our ally. My imagination got the better of me; had to have a lamp on for a couple hours. Just felt a presence. The complimentary breakfast was very lovely. Enjoyed coffee+pastry on the balcony, in the company of my new found friend; baby gheko lol. Parking was free depending WHERE you park. Wendy was kind enough to 411 us that as well. My fella did walk just to check on things but everything was good. We did park in front of someone's home tho. They were kind enough to allow it unless it's common practice. There are lots 1 or 2 blocks where you pay to park as well. Downtown was within walking distance. It took 30 minutes in getting to the concert. That's a lovely hand in hand stroll. If you're not bothered by sweat, then keep strolling to the French Quarter! It rained our visit, but we didn't mind one bit! I could write more,but please see for yourselves! If you're uppity, naive about old buildings (you may see a few bugs; extreme heat, humidity + dampness, do the math),not into antiques or aged anything, this isn't for you. I didn't want to leave, and I guess NOLA didn't either because we had trouble starting our vehicle which has never happened even near empty. We laughed it off, after 5 minutes it miraculously started. Hmmm. ..Hoodoo Voodoo???

A great location, but between the rude staff member and the unclean room, I give this place two stars. The room had one window unit that worked, and then another one installed in the wall that did not work, with the front broken off and pieces of the inside showing. This is next to one of the beds. The bedding: the sheets were wrinkled, gross, and had someone else's hair on them, and what looked like a cigarette or some sort of burn mark. There was half a roll of toilet paper in our room, and no phone to call the front desk. When we did go down and ask for more, they brought one roll to our room. When my sister asked for an extra blanket, they said there were not any. All in all, great location, but will pass next time.

Wouldn't have been too bad if the power wasn't out all night the fist night I was there, cleaning the room could have been more than just dropping off towels, and if they didn't direct you to the most touristy restaurant spots possible. Pretty much just a place to lay your head, wasn't too bad. Just know that you're not staying at your usual run of the mill motel.

Let me start off this review by saying that I CHOSE the Historic Streetcar Inn as our hotel when my boyfriend and I recently vacationed to New Orleans. I read many reviews on travel websites, looked at photos provided on the internet, and we decided that the quaint charm of this hotel would be perfect for us. Let me make this simple by saying that my boyfriend and I were EXTREMELY disappointed when we arrived there. When we got to the main office and got checked in, everything seemed like it was going just fine. The employee asked if we would like one set of keys or two, and we said we would like two. He went to the key hooks, and told us that we could actually only have one set since they did not have a second one. This was the first red mark...if you are going to offer two sets of keys, make sure you HAVE them to give. A young worker brought us through the hotel to our room. We had to go outside through the courtyard to get there (as many of the historic hotels in New Orleans are), but the worker could not find the room! First he led us downstairs, then he turned us around to go upstairs, then he brought us BACK downstairs where our room was. As if the journey TO our room wasn't already bizarre enough, there were some unpleasant surprises when we got into our room. The closet door did not shut (the door was too big for its doorway), there was soap scum and severe staining/discoloration in the bathtub, and we had to plug our TV in ourselves. The BEST part was when my boyfriend used the bathroom. Not only did it NOT flush all the way, but when he went to put the toilet seat down it FELL OFF. You read correctly - the toilet seat and lid FELL OFF AND CLATTERED TO THE FLOOR. I was cautiously sitting on the bed when I heard this crash, and ran in to see what happened. Needless to say, we got a good laugh out of it, but this was our last straw. We Google'd other hotels in the area, and learned that there was another small hotel just a couple of blocks away. We took a walk to check it out. When we got to Prytania Park Hotel, the receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. She informed us that they did indeed have vacancies (at $11 less per night than we were paying at Streetcar). We told her that we needed to go back to the original hotel (after a very brief explanation) and that we'd be back. When we got back to Streetcar, we got our suitcase (which we hadn't even opened yet we had been there so short of a time) and went back to the main office with our key. We explained, very nicely, that the room did not look as advertised, and that the bathtub was dirty and the toilet seat had fallen off. We THOUGHT this would evoke some sort of surprise from the manager...however...his response (this is still our favorite story from the trip) was a SIGH and a HEAD SHAKE. No apology, not even remote surprise, nothing. Just a sigh and a head shake. He told us that he would cancel our reservation for the rest of the nights, but that the first night's payment had already processed and that we could not get that back. Not wanting to argue, we said okay and went BACK to Prytania Park Hotel where we got in immediately and loved our room. After settling into our new room at Prytania Park Hotel, I decided that I was not going to pay $101 for the 30 minutes that we were at Streetcar. I called the office back, reminded them that our toilet seat fell off and that there was NO remorse on their end whatsoever, and they immediately told me they would refund me the money I had already paid. The refund did go through that same day, so they did give my money back as they said they would. And Prytania Park was a lovely hotel. Old charm and friendly staff. Breakfast in the mornings was minimal (yogurt, fruit, toast, coffee) but sufficient and yummy, and our room was cleaned every single day and left exactly the way it had been when we first got there. Do NOT let the charming photos of Historic Streetcar Inn trick you into booking a reservation there. Within 2 hours of being in New Orleans, my boyfriend and I had already relocated to Prytania Park Hotel where we stayed all of our 4 nights.

Got a good deal on a last minute weekday room on vacation, but I should have known it was too good to be true. Very outdated, serious maintenance issues, not clean, uncomfortable bed. Staff was ok, one was really friendly and helpful, but others just ok. Breakfast was bagels, coffee, cheap pastries, and OJ. I asked them to mail a postcard to my sister and later saw it in the rain paper clipped on the outside of the mailbox. Good location right by streetcar stop but overall would not stay here again.

I stayed here during Mardi gras by myself for a few days. On the second day I was there I got food or alcohol poisoning or something. I was very sick. The lady who worked at the front desk, her name escapes me, literally saved my life. She not only managed to keep my room for me for a few extra days even though they were booked full because I was too sick to move and everything was full everywhere but also was kind enough to supply me with bottles of water and clean sheets because I couldn't leave my room. The place was a little noisy but that's old New Orleans buildings. My room was quite nice and comfortable and they had a nice free breakfast spread. I would definitely stay here again. And the room prices are unbeatable for the location and that's coming from someone who lived in New Orleans for 14 years. Thanks guys!!!

We were in NOLA for the Fringe Festival and, rather than overload our very accommodating with too many guests, we checked into the Historic Streetcar Inn. It is a historic building right on the streetcar line; centrally located to everything we wanted to get to and do, and a great place. Yes, there may have been a few issues you wouldn't find at the Hilton (like the ultra-loud fan in the bathroom and some dings in the walls), but for the price and experience it was AMAZING! Beds were comfortable. Plenty of hot water. Both things we have not had at hotels we paid more money for... Between SLICE and VOODOO BBQ, with a pub, ST CHARLES TAVERN (open 24 hours) and plenty of other places, you won't go hungry. Easy to get everywhere! My biggest concern was that we would not be able to get parking, but we found parking immediately around the Historic Streetcar Inn with no problem the entire week we were there. We look forward to visiting again soon!

I have mixed feelings about my stay here. I stayed here with 4 other friends. Bought it through priceline. This bed and breakfast was visually quaint. It a very lovely victorian house. I felt like I was truly living in New Orleans. The neighborhood looks a little scary, but the hotel does not. Our room was very lovely. It was clean, however the bathroom felt like a sauna for some reason. They say the house is haunted, which I think adds character to this hotel. I was able to sleep soundly. They do serve breakfast. Just your regular cold ceral, pastries and some fruit. Parking is hard to find. Street parking is free up until 8am-7pm I believe. So you would have to wake up early or move your car somewhere else. The location was somewhat safe. If you plan on going to Bourbon street, its about a 15minute walk. At night, I got a little scared. I would say as long as you are in a group you should be safe? Don't drive though because parking is hard to find. My only complaint is the staff. Mainly, only to the lady working there. At first she seemed nice, but I felt that as I kept asking questions she got a little snappy with me. We ran into a few complicated issues with the booking, and she didn't seem reasonable and was very rude. I would have left right there and then if I hadn't already paid for the night. Overall, I would suggest staying somewhere else. You can find a cheaper hotel with a better location. Dealing with the staff was annoying. However, the hot itself was amazing, but not the staff or location.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Absolutely adorable little place. We had an adorable room on the third floor overlooking the superdome and the city. It was right on the streetcar line and was a 15-20 min ride from Bourbon St and the French Quarter (it only took that long because the streetcar chugs along slowly...if you drive it's like 5 mins). Right in the heart of New Orleans on St. Charles St. Probably a prime location to catch the parades and such. There's a good pizzeria next door and the voodoo bbq wasn't bad. Staff were sweet and extremely friendly and the decor, ambiance, etc. of the place was just too historic adorable for words. Will stay again! They've got muffins and bagels for breakfast and nice little patio for eating on. Rooms are spacious!

The good: The location is great. Being right across from the streetcar line, you have easy access to Uptown, the garden district, the CBD, and the french quarter. The building is also cute from the outside, and the a/c in our room worked well. The bad: Once you look more closely at the inside of the hotel, it's clear this place has't been kept up as it should. The floors are very uneven, which caused us to trip on many occasions. There is peeling paint and large cracks in some walls, and while the rooms are "surface clean" they are definitely not deep cleaned. There were numerous dusty areas in our room, the bathroom floor had dust and hair all along the edges, and the paint and caulk was done very messily. The sink vanity is teeny tiny, which meant we couldn't keep our toiletries in the bathroom (there was only a corner of the sink, the toilet, or the floor-- no shelf or anything. The shower curtain was gross -- just a plain cheap off-white curtain that had some rips, was unattached from several rungs, and had paint spots on it. We're told this was a renovated room-- I'd hate to see the unrenovated rooms. As we looked around the room, we also saw that there was no alarm clock, no phone, and no hair dryer. The binder of information in the room was also pitiful-- it didn't even list the hotel's phone number (had to look that up on my smartphone to call them to ask for the wifi password, which they did not give us upon check-in). We asked for a hairdryer and were told that they would "have to look for one"; when no hairdryer was brought by the end of that day, we asked again, and the person at the desk that time had no knowledge that we had asked for one, but was thankfully able to locate one in a storage room. We stayed for nearly a week, so we experienced housekeeping (or lack of it..) on multiple days. The rooms are only stocked with *just* enough towels and wash cloths for two people, so refreshing the linens is pretty critical. On half the days, housekeeping did not take our dirty, wet wash cloths from the floor or give us new ones. One day the only sign housekeeping was there was that our beds were made-- nothing was done in the bathroom (no new towels, no old towels removed, no trash taken out). Half the days, our beds weren't touched by housekeeping, and the dirty towels on the ground weren't removed either. Thankfully one of those times new towels were left, but it seemed like a half-hearted attempt at cleaning the room since the dirty towels weren't removed, the trash wasn't taken out, and the beds weren't made. I should also note that we were away from the hotel the vast majority of the day time (leaving by 10, not returning until 4) each day, so the lack of housekeeping was clearly not because we were in the way. Needless to say, the room wasn't worth nearly what we paid for it and we will absolutely not be coming back to this hotel.

Super awesome perfect place to stay while in NawLins, free safe parking! Take the trolly to town and party your ass off the head back just before 4am so you don't miss the last trolly! Free breakfast!

Awesome !!! It's a family run business in a sweet old house from 1890 I think. Great staff. Super friendly. Room was exactly what I expected. No frills, no stooped flat screen tv. It was clean , the AC was cold , & the towels were clean. Reminds me of places back home. Plus it's minutes from all the debauchery you can stomach. your not here to watch tv. Get out,get lost, eat amazing food & come back to a comfy place with some character. Will be my spot every time I'm in Nola.

Overall my stay here went off without a hitch. Thanks to the other reviews, I knew what to expect--a decent independent inn without some of the amenities of a larger or more modern hotel. For example, not all rooms have elevator access, but I found that charming. My room (and the rest of the hotel I saw) was very clean, and the internet access was great. They had several signals to choose from and they were all strong enough. I walk a lot in New Orleans, so the Historic Streetcar Inn's accessibility to several neighborhoods was a huge plus. My chief complaint was that even though the heater worked great my first night, the second night when I turned it on in the evening, only cold air came out. I was exhausted and had to take off early the next morning, so I bundled up and went to bed. I called and received an apology, and I would certainly consider staying here again--in better weather.

Free parking and free wifi. Wonderful staff. and the building is large and beautiful. Very cozy waiting areas and patio. The Trolley is right outside the door. The neighborhood is colorful and fun. Minutes away from Canal and bourbon st. Most importantly the bed is oh so cozy! Def must. I loved it here.

First review I ever left anywhere, if I could give a zero star I would. We booked 3 nights and were locked out on the first night as we arrived after 11pm. We did read the fine print on page 3 of an email that indicated we must call if we are arriving after 11pm, we called at 11:05pm, no answer and no way to get a hold of anyone. We booked through book it.com and they were unhelpful and just shared that it's in policy and terms what our responsibilities were. After waiting out that night and calling the following morning and friendly guy named Gary answered and assured us that we would not be charged for that first night and was very nice so we decided to go in. When we arrived and I explained to an older woman what happened her first response was not empathy, it was defensive. She immediately shared with my what my responsibility was as the consumer on page 3 in fine print to call them before 11pm. She also said that book it .com does not share my number for them to call me. She said I would still be charged for first night. I walked away even though I didn't have a room for my stay anywhere else and knew most places were completely booked because of conferences. Never in my life have I booked a stay anywhere and was locked out. When did this become a norm in the hospitality industry? Never would go there even for free... And will tell everyone I know and will spread the word... The front lady needs to go and cleaning staff according to these reviews need to go or get trained on what guest services mean...

A wonderful old hotel with friendly staff, a location in the real New Orleans, wifi, food, and a nice porch where you can meet your fellow refugees from civilization. I happened to stay during a monster rainstorm that cooled down the city, so my room was a bit more frigid than is normal, but I won't count that against the hotel -- it is a homely and affordable and convenient stay.

Great location on St Charles, really cute hotel, very relaxed, clean and comfortable rooms. You don't need much more than that. I stayed for several night this last week, and had a great time. Easy to get to just about any hot spot you want in New Orleans. The outdoor patio is a great spot to relax, and almost another world than the craziness that can be going on just steps from the door. With walking distance of some really good restaurants and bars. Easy to get to the French Quarter or Frenchmen St. as well. The people that run the place are very friendly, and everything seems to be run very smoothly. There is free internet, a small complimentary spread of bagels, coffee, muffins, etc in the morning. The prices are very reasonable, and for me worth every penny.

This hotel is in a great location and I found it at a decent rate. It is run in kind of a bed and breakfast way with the staff not being there 24-hours. On one hand that's a relief, but I wound up missing a full-time staff. Sadly I can't completely recommend it. The website promised free wi-fi and there wasn't any. The continental breakfast left much to be desired. My room had a sign saying that putting your towel on rack meant they wouldn't wash it, someone had put a note on the sign saying "what rack?" -- and they were right, the rack had come off the wall and wasn't replaced. (I wondered how long the note had been there.) The A/C was a window unit which didn't work. The advertised free cable is only basic and on a less than basic television. I wish I could recommend the hotel because the location has a great feeling of staying almost residentially. Maybe there are other options out there?

The friendly and accommodating staff was a highlight. The decor was charming and I was so glad breakfast was included. Room was comfortable, on the small side, but the bathroom was large and pleasant. Great location. Easy to get uptown or downtown. Nice wall art and chandeliers, not faded or tacky. Happy to find several restaurants and businesses in easy walking distance.

I love the area bc it was away from the madness but close enough to it, and having the street car right there is awesome! With that said I am the type of girl who goes away and wants a super comfy bed and nice bathroom, this really didn't have either. It wasnt some god awful shit hole but it wasn't really my type of place. The headboard was broken so when I tried to get my sweet lovin on it was kind of loud and the bathroom could use a bit of a touch up. I stayed in mid Feb, the staff was nice but I would have rather paid the few bucks extra and stayed the hotel right up the way I had my last visit.

Pros - great location and delicious restaurant next door (Slice). Finding parking wasn't a problem either. And I got a good price for it on hotels.com as a last minute trip for one night. Cons - There's no heat in the room which is a problem in December. Room #13 is right next to/below the stairwell so you hear all the foot traffic which can be considerable. There's a large gap under the door so you hear more than you want to. The room smelled like Windex, I had to spray perfume to cover it up. The bathroom-yuck. The décor is "blah", like someone tried but got tired or ran out of money and just walked off. And the buildings are REALLY close together. Close enough that I heard the restaurant next door washing and putting away the dishes. I could have stuck my head out the window and asked for a slice of pizza and a beer without ever leaving my room. This place isn't a shit hole but it's not far from it.

I've stayed here twice. I think your experience might depend on what section of the inn you get. My first stat, I was right on St Charles with a beautiful balcony and super posh furnishings. It was a great price, and when I came back to NOLA for work, I was eager to stay here. Now, I'm in an alley room and was awakened at 3:00 am by the dumpsters being rolled past my room. And I can hear the phone conversation of the guys rolling the dumpsters, right outside my window, so I can't get back to sleep. The room hasn't been cleaned since I checked in (3 days ago), and there is a heavy build up of dirt around the baseboards. No one has moved the furniture to vacuum behind/underneath for a long time, either. The hair dryer in the bathroom needs a serious wipe-down, too. There's a crust of dirt on the cord that has turned it from white to gray. But, like I said, my first stay was great.

I would never consider staying here again. My room was depressing, with old, dirty, rugs on top of old dirty wall-to-wall carpeting. The air conditioner was necessary to run constantly to keep the dank odor down, even if the temperature outside was comfortable. I entered my room one late afternoon and the overhead light in the bedroom and the bright vanity light in the bathroom were on and the bed was unmade and dirty towels laying around the bath. After getting over the shock, I assumed the maid or someone else entered the room, turned on the lights and then left. My door did not lock securely and the deadbolt was only lockable from the inside. There is no phone in the rooms so you have to walk down to the office to speak to anyone. The breakfast is lacking. I'm not sure what they expect you to do with the hard, cold biscuits because there is no way to heat them up. During 2 out of 3 nights the dumpsters were emptied outside in the alleyway. The noise on the first night was tremendous. Parking on the side streets was fine and the patio is pleasant with an ice machine. I had no problem with the internet connection.

Cute little historic place. Street car stops right in front of the Inn. Very welcoming staff. The lady at the front desk gave us a tour of the Inn and walked us to our door. Free breakfast in the morning. The only thing I didn't like was the parking. You have to park around the neighborhood and it can be a little tough finding a space. Overall I would go back again.

This was my first time in Nola and I started planning 2 months in advance. Most hotels were either booked or ridiculously expensive. I had booked 2 rooms at St. James Hotel but the reviews were 50/50 but it was the best we could do for the 5 of us on a budget. Then a 6th person hopped on board so we had more money to work with so we booked Ambassador Hotel a more modern hotel.. again with 50/50 reviews but this time the customer service was just rude and made mistakes in booking. So as a last ditch attempt I scoured Trip Advisor top to bottom from highest ranked until I found this one. The man I spoke with on the phone was so nice and fantastic and the price was a lot less than what we had booked at the other hotel.. that switching saved us $118 a piece, which paid for the tours we went on plus the shuttle to and from the airport! As for the hotel. PERFECT.The location is in the Garden District and the streetcar is right out front. Couldn't have asked for a better place. Neighborhood was great, rooms were roomy. It kinda felt like boarding school. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. My ONLY complaint was that they need bigger towels. I would definitely recommend and would stay again. PS.. **SOLID STAY IN THE GARDEN DISTRICT** Good location, the St. Charles street car stops right in front of the Hotel and there are above-average surrounding eateries (Emeril's, Voodoo BBQ, Slice, etc.) I had room #46 for 3 nights. It was CLEAN, the heater worked immediately, and the bathroom was spacious. Felt like staying at a rich aunt's spare bedroom. The light breakfast was just right. I had apple juice and grits every morning before embarking on my NOLA adventures. Lydia and her staff were very pleasant to deal with, gave me advice on where to go, how to get there, and what to do. RECOMMEND.

I love old historic hotels. And this one is great! Yes, it is an old building (built as a home in 1897). So it is NOT the Marriott or other chain hotel. If you love character, creaking floors, and original (YES! ORIGINAL) hall carpeting (that is in beautiful condition!), then this hotel is for you! Plus it is right on the trolley line (which takes you to the French Quarter in minutes), within walking distance of several great restaurants, a safe neighborhood in the Garden District (just one block from the police station and the streets are also patrolled by private security), what more can you ask? Oh yes, and one more thing! The hotel is said to be haunted! I didn't have a personal experience, but the haunted aspect just adds to the charm. The staff was warm, friendly, and professional. The bed was very comfortable. Clean sheets, hot water, fresh towels, very nicely decorated bathroom, and better-than-most-chain-hotels in-room A/C. They serve a continental breakfast - from which I took advantage of the instant grits. Gotta have grits when you're in the south! The ONLY downside was the distance from Cafe du Monde and beignets. For us die-hard beignet fans, they are just a trolley ride away! I would DEFINITELY stay here again! Very much a great stay at a great price!

It was our tail end of our third trip to NOLA and we were tired of the French Quarter and the Central Business District so we decided to try and get something in the Garden District of the Lower Garden District. AGH is on the border of the CBD and the Lower Garden District. It is perfectly situated. There is a street car stop going in either direction (into the French Quarter or Uptown) right in front of the hotel. It is walking distance from a Walgreens in case you forgot something a pizza place next door and a 24/7 tavern serving booze and mediocre food all day (altho lots of cops outside when we came home at 2am, and cops generally know where the good eats are). It's also down the street from Emril's Delmonico. We had a king sized bed, in a room right next to the front office. Surprisingly this wasn't that big of a deal. There weren't many people at the hotel while we were there and it was pretty quiet. I think we were the people would were coming in the latest. The room (#11) was decent sized, with a small full bathroom and a false fireplace. High, vaulted ceiling and lots of lovely furniture. The bed was big, clean, and really comfortable. Not your standard saggy uncomfy hotel mattress. Floors were clean, bathroom was clean. Bathroom was small and didn't have much counterspace. It kinda reminded me of my bathroom in my college apartment. Overall, it was a lovely experience. We paid more than most people did ($100 a night, but we had one of the larger rooms), so I'll have to call back about deals and what not. I think I'm gonna try to make this base of operations from here on out. If you are lucky enough to stay while Jayla is there, the cute little girl will just charm your pants off.

Great hotel for the price (under $100) and dog friendly. Very cute, old building, redone, really nice staff. Breakfast was good, even had protiens. Cable car takes forever, but so convenient to hotel.

I just stayed here for my first trip to NOLA over the Presidents Day holiday weekend! Lydia who runs the hotel is really sweet and full of great recommendations for where to eat and explore. The location is superb- you walk out of the place- and there in front of you is the St Charles Street car line. Free cofee cake, packets of grits, and coffee were thoroughly enjoyed for breakfast each morning. I'll be back to this great city and I'll stay here!

This hotel has it all- It's clean. It's pretty. It has friendly staff. It is located right on the St. Charles street car line, and is fairly close to Loyola and Tulane, as well as downtown. And it has a kitty!! I only stayed here one night, Tuesday this week, and the stay was enjoyable, though we weren't there for very long. It is mostly quiet (I'll get to that) and the room we had was good sized, immaculately clean, and beautifully furnished. Parking is on the street, but the hotel is on the corner of MLK and St. Charles, where there is a police station just a few blocks down the way on MLK (don't let the roughness of the neighborhood on MLK bother you- it is a good few blocks from St. Charles and the neighborhood around the hotel is markedly better, as well as where you will park). As such, the police presence at the 24 hour eatery across the street is pretty good, so the problems here are few, as we were assured by our innkeeper. I walked out of my room to investigate things and noticed that there was a note on the beautiful patio door to not let the cat out, no matter how much she begged and pleaded. As a now intrigued cat lover, I went in search of this kitty and found the biggest cat I've ever seen! She is very sweet. I stooped to pet her, then got up to go but she started walking in front of my legs to get more pets! Somebody's been begging treats off of hotel guests, I suspect :-) This hotel feels like a cross between a bed and breakfast and a hotel...probably because that is actually what it is. It is three homes built into each other. There is a pretty sitting room, a snack machine, and then a light breakfast of bagels, grits, coffee and juice. It is very intimate and quaint- the rooms are close together, like a home, but I heard no noise from other rooms. There are several great restaurants within walking distance. The best part of this hotel is the price. A friend of ours came by and commented that we must really be paying out the nose for it but we didn't- not at ALL. The only complaint I had, and this is not the fault of the hotel but rather the Corp of NOLA, was the VERY loud trash pickup at 4 AM that went on for almost an hour. I don't know if this is a nightly thing and suspect it could also be an issue with where our room was located in the hotel? I actually thought it was raining at first, it sounded like thunder. So despite the trash pick-up, this is definitely a great, homey place to stay. Oh, and the innkeeper told me that they wash ALL bedding in the room between every stay- including the bedspreads. So that is nice.

Located further from the French Quarter than most would prefer, but it is across the street from the St Charles trolley line, taxi rides run about $5 from Canal street. The room is nothing great, but the staff is helpful and friendly. Parking on the street is mostly free, private (paid) parking is also available. The room is nothing great, but the common areas are nice and it's a good place to share your experiences other travelers.

Wonderful historic place with a great location in between the Garden District and French Quarter. The street car ($5 for an all day pass) stop is right in front of the hotel, and the owner could not be more helpful. We arrived after a long day of driving from Memphis, and were greeted with warm hospitality and a thorough history of New Orleans. The rooms were beautifully decorated, if a little dated. The complimentary breakfast was sufficient enough to get us going in the mornings, and the free wi-fi helped us navigate the city. There's parking available in a garage ($25/night) across the street but I parked my car in a free spot on a perpendicular street and it was fine for two nights. The area is safe enough to walk around in at all hours and it feels more like a bed and breakfast rather than a hotel because it was so cute. I don't think I'd stay anywhere else in New Orleans.

Ahh, the Avenue Garden Hotel, located right next to my favorite pizza kitchen, 'Slice', and right on St. Charles Ave. This is a pretty convenient place to stay if you're from out of town and on a budget. Thinking about staying here while checking out what the city of New Orleans has to offer? Read the following dialogue and then choose wisely. I stayed here a couple years ago when I was still living in Uptown (St. Mary St., to be exact) because the power grid had gone down on our block and well, I'm a creature of comfort. It was during the middle of summer and every time I took a step outside, I absolutely baked. I felt like a chicken on a rotisserie under the heat of 1,000 suns! I had gone for one day already without A/C at night and I wasn't about to do it again. I began calling hotels and B&B joints in the area to see if they had power. I happened to stumble upon the Avenue Garden Hotel who, coincidentally had power! I quickly made a reservation for the evening, packed up my stuff and headed out. I don't remember the receptionist's name but I do recall that she was very friendly. She gave me a key and my unit was straight down the hall and the last one on the left before the hallway curved around. When I got in, I initially found the room acceptable, however this was just upon a glance or two. When I started to unpack my bag for the night and really get settled, things started to jump out at me. There was no central A/C; there was a window unit and this one in particular dripped water ALL OVER the windowsill, wall and carpet. The windowsill looked like it had started to mold and the carpet was soaked. Speaking of the carpet, that was a mess, too. The carpet didn't look like it had been vacuumed in a week. There were balls of lint and dust and hair EVERYWHERE. Oh well, it was just for a night, I thought to myself. The bathroom was, well, dirty, too. The floor looked grimy and the tub had mildew/scum built up. Not terrible but definitely noticeable. Then, it got worse when I pulled back the covers to the bed. There were pubic hairs EVERYWHERE! I mean EVERYWHERE! The sheets, the blanket, the pillows; it was like Bigfoot's 'manhood' booked the room the night previous. Seriously, I couldn't believe the amount of hair. Whoever slept there before had hair in places even monkeys don't. I went back out to ask for new sheets but the receptionist wasn't there and I was exhausted. I found another blanket in the room that hadn't been used so I put that over the bed and slept on top of it. The next day, I went back to the house and Entergy still hadn't kicked the power back on. So, I needed to book another night but NOT in that same room! I went to book another reservation with the receptionist but thankfully, the room I was in had been reserved already. They had nothing left....except The Kensington Suite. She said it was 15 dollars or so more a night but she said it with this tone that suggested she wasn't so sure I'd go for it. I asked her what she meant and she said "well, let me just take you up there and show you first". Uh, oh. That doesn't sound good. First, I spent the evening in a room that Bigfoot's d*** slept in the night previous and now, I'm in for MORE excitement? She took me outside and into the hallway adjacent to the entrance into 'Slice'. "Where the hell is she taking me?", I wondered. It was like something out of a movie where the front of a business is just a façade; a front for drug runners. We started to climb steps and I asked for more explanation about this mysterious room. The receptionist simply replied "let's just say that the owner got a little carried away with the decorating...." She wasn't kidding AT ALL. While it was a VERY spacious room with a very large closet and a huge, modern bathroom, the bedroom was definitely not something I'd seen every day. The bed featured about four shades of red sheets and comforters and was also shaped like a giant heart with a headboard to match. It was raised up off the ground with a crushed red velvet bed frame that extended all the way around. On each side of the bed were two 4 ft marble sculptures that acted as night stands. Oh yeah, and the whole ceiling was mirrored. Hmm, I wonder what people do in here for fun???? I only stayed in the Kensington Suite for one night because the following day, my power at the house was restored. I am awarding 3 stars to this establishment because while my first stay in the "hairy" bedroom was pretty terrible, the Kensington Suite was quiet, clean and very spacious. Also, the windows overlook St. Charles Ave. and they are tinted to prevent too much heat from the sun. I enjoyed that room. No, I really did. Seriously. So, I took the average of the two nights. It's been a while since I've been back but if I had to book again, I'd def ask for the Kensington Suite!

We stayed here while we were in town for a friend's wedding. While all of our friends stayed in rooms at the Best Western further down St. Charles from the French Quarter, we stayed here for literally half the price and had MUCH nicer accommodations!! The staff here are warm, friendly and helpful and make you feel right at home. The hotel is very charming and certainly one of a kind! I sprained my ankle the night before we were to leave which made getting ready and out by check out time difficult. We were fully prepared to pay the late fee for late checkout but when I casually mentioned the situation, the owner chose not to charge us. I was so impressed by her understanding and compassion!

Overall our two nights stay was not bad. The front desk lady does her job well, but the cleaner never gave us enough towels for two nights, so I had to ask them from front desk lady which is kinda annoying. We booked a room for 4 ppl with two queen size beds, somehow the front desk lady put us in a room right next to her office house, but the other house next to it. When we opened the door, it's amazing no hall way there but is our room! The room is huge and with two king beds! Although it's just too close to the street, you can hear everything from the street, the street car runs almost 24hrs, and it makes loud roaring sound when it was passing by. And I am typing my comment at 3AM just because I got waken up by some ppl spoke curse words all over the street bars and restaurants. This place also has a huge problem, which has no parking space. I am so worry my rental car got trashed on the street, it's kinda a big pressure for me now since everyone around here look having mental problems to me. This morning we went to visit magazine street, which was so awesome place with good food and many small shops, if you live here, the magazine street is only three blocks away. I may try to looking some good place on magazine street if I am back here in the future.

Web site is deceptive. There are stock photos that are not representative of the property. The hotel is neglected and not very clean. Tacky and old furnishings; unidentified objects under the bed; piles of extension cords in plain view under the AC unit; a mirror hiding a hold in the wall; and a rug on top of the carpet. Bathroom tile grout missing and/or dirty; rusty shower rod... It goes on. Faux fireplace that is a space heater. Room did not get cleaned the 4 days we were there despite numerous requests. We had to fetch our own toilet paper and towels. The continental breakfast consisted of coffee; juice; powdered creamer; wonder bread; English muffins; danish and instant oatmeal. No dairy to be found... It is in a convenient location but not worth the price we paid for such a depressing atmosphere.

*note* I wrote a similar review on tripadvisor. I really wanted to like this hotel- it was charming and in a great location, with cute, unique rooms. It was just my style. Unfortunately, some blood-sucking insects ruined that. Yup- bed bugs. We found them the morning we were leaving, because they normally come out very early in the morning (we were up at 530). Bleck! The management let us stay as long as necessary to take care of the issue (ie throwing away a bunch of our stuff and bagging the rest in ziplocks to be boiled) but it didn't change the fact that it was gross and a huge inconvenience. I threw away about $300 worth of clothing, shoes and luggage and I'm still worried that we brought the creatures back to our house with us. I would never stay here again, and I would urge you to think twice about it. Without seeing every carpet and mattress in the place replaced, there's no way I'd trust that the bugs were gone.

We arrived late on a Friday night and the proprietor couldn't have been nicer just as if it was 3 in the afternoon. After some warm southern hospitality we retired to our room. Our room was no frills. Typical budget hotel style. We had a TV, a recently remodeled bathroom and a queen size bed. We were able to sneak a peak at another room on the same floor and it was decorated very, very nicely so it really comes down to how much you are willing to spend. We got an excellent deal and the hotel staff couldn't have been nicer. One complaint would have to be the thinness of the walls on the first floor. Our room was right next to the kitchen/ breakfast nook so we were able to here staff and guests congregating in the area. In retrospect it was probably no big deal but if you can hear them they can hear you. Also the maid service was slightly frustrated by the fact we weren't out of the room by 9am on the dot. We stalled her for as long as we could while we rushed to get ready, she was not happy. I suggest you just take extra towels and any amenities you may need and bypass the maid service. Overall excellent hotel and we definitely will stay there again when we return to NOLA. A $5 cab ride to the french quarter from the garden district and there are an abundance of local restaurants if you would like to stay in the area. Especially voodoo bbq which is right next door.

So very unprofessional. We booked our room in the middle of January for a reservation on 02/22 and 02/23 (2013) This weekend upcoming. We called to confirm our reservation today and they tell us that they have no record of our booking even though they have already charged my card the full amount for the two day stay. Called and a gentleman tried to help me and i received a call back from Ora who was rude and unhelpful! She acted as though I was trying to take advantage of her and wouldn't even look into the names of our other guests to verify if perhaps the room was booked under the wrong name. They refused to refund my money so we can book another hotel. Also, we booked a 6 bed room and the woman whom which we booked told me they in fact do have this as did the first gentleman that i spoke with but Ora told me that that isn't even something the hotel has. Conflicting information and can't get a straight answer. I i could give negative stars i would! Didn't even get a chance to stay here and already unsatisfied!!!!! Will file complaints and have other 5 guests comment. Thanks for the heartache. Awesome bachelorette weekend :(

Upon hearing that we were going to be in New Orleans, our kind Southern friends offered us a room in their beautiful Garden District home, and even provided us a key. But, somehow, we locked ourselves out anyway (at 2 in the morning). Deciding it inappropriate to wake them (and their 2-year-old) up with a middle-of-the-night phone call, I employed MacGyveresque skills to find us a place. Columns Hotel? $200-something at this hour? I don't think so. Avenue Garden? What's that? $89 *and* on the streetcar line? Perfect! We stayed in the last available and teensyest room in the house room, #23, and it was cozy, clean, and cute, with a little balcony and everything. Plus the staff is friendly college kid types. We liked it so much we're blocking rooms for our wedding guests in October.

Loved this hotel. Only $40 a night in June '04. Plenty of stuff to see in the Garden District or take the St Charles Car to the Quarter. The common area is nice with free computer to use. The garden is awesome with a great mural. The staff was always really friendly. One of the girls actually took me out and showed me Metairie and Lake Pontchartrain as it was my first visit to New Orleans.

LOVED this hotel! Lydia was so sweet and was more of a house mom than anything. We got lost and she waited for us outside, great food recommendations from her too! It's definitely not fancy four seasons at all, but its very cozy and makes you feel like you're staying in a house. Great location and perfect to put you in the NOLA mood. The St. Charles street car is across the street and parking is free. We found a deal online to stay 2 nights get 3rd free in July, perfect place to save some money. Cute courtyard and balcony, very friendly.

I was indeed surprised. I usually stay in a hotel but got sidetracked when I saw this place online and decided to go ahead and book it for the weekend. Pulled up and I could already tell this would be a great experience. We checked in and Glinda and Gary were just plain awesome. Our room was very cool with that old New Orleans feel. The street car access was right across the street. After and afternoon in New Orleans we spent the rest of the evening sitting on the front porch and enjoying the evening and hanging out at the local places around the area. Slept well and went to breakfast and it was just as good as everything else. My family enjoyed everything and we can't wait to go back. Thanks again to all the staff and especially Glinda and Gary.

I'm not sure why anyone would give this hotel a negative review. First, I was able to book this hotel online for less than $70/night, and that included a good selection of food at the breakfast buffet, as well as free wifi. Second, the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It's an old home that has been beautifully renovated into a hotel, and I couldn't have been happier with my room and the awesome balcony outside. Third, this hotel was literally close to everything. My friend and I saved a ton of money on gas and street parking fees in NOLA by being able to walk to the French Quarter and downtown from the hotel; there is also a trolley across the street that will take you up to canal street for only $1.25. Lastly, the customer service at the Streetcar Inn was amazing! Glinda was very kind, knowledgable, and provided us with great customer service, as did the entire office and housekeeping staff. Everyone went out of their way to say hello, or open a door; very hospitable environment, and I would definitely stay here again/ recommend it to anyone traveling to NOLA!!! :)
